Welcome to LCHAY

The Lane Coalition for Healthy Active Youth- LCHAY- located in Lane County Oregon, works to increase awareness and educate the public about the causes and effects of childhood obesity and related diseases. We advocate for policy change and partner with projects, programs and initiatives to improve the physical activity and nutrition environments.

To strengthen and advance our efforts to address the problem of childhood obesity in our community, LCHAY collaborates with a wide range of concerned individuals, organizations and institutions; including physicians, nurses and dieticians, parents, educators, school board members and district administrators, legislators, local businesses, service organizations and community planners among others.

 

 

 

 

LCHAY's Goals are to:

  • Reduce the incidence and prevalence of childhood obesity in Lane County children.
  • Reduce the incidence and prevalence of chronic childhood diseases related to obesity and poor nutrition.
  • Increase daily physical activity among children and adolescents.
  • Reduce the amount of time kids spend watching television, video games, and the internet
  • Decrease the consumption of energy-dense, high-sugar/high-fat foods such as soda, ice cream, junk food, and fast food.
  • Increase the consumption of nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and skim milk
  • Assist with policy development that reinforces long-term environmental and individual behavioral change resulting in improved nutrition, increased physical activity and reduction of obesity and related chronic diseases
  • Identify and utilize culturally sensitive strategies which reduce the prevalence of obesity in our community
