Recipes, Food and Nutrition Tips

Eating healthy food can be a fun adventure, especially with young children! Involve your children in the selection and preparation of foods as much as possible. If you have space to garden- even a simple window box of fresh salad greens or a potted tomato plant- children enjoy the satisfaction and magic of seeing their food grow from seed to table!

Summer Food Program

Good nutrition is critical for children's well-being and maintaining healthy weight; as well as proper brain development and readiness to learn. Many children get a balanced meal each day in school, but during the summer months when school is out families are often challenged to provide meals at home. The Summer Food Program is a USDA Child Nutrition Program offering a free, nutritious lunch to children 2-18 years of age. The program is sponsored locally by FOOD for Lane County with support from the Oregon Dept of Education and the Lane County Commission on Children and Families. There are over 60 sites throughout Lane County. Click here for more information on the 2010 Summer Food Program.
